Choosing the right filter sheath

Depending on the type of soil to be drained or the backfill material used, Soleno will recommend (or not recommend) the use of filtering sheaths:

  • None: in the presence of a clay soil or a sandy clay soil or when clean stone is used as backfill around the drain.
  • 100 microns: in the case of soil containing sandy or silty soil or when a draining sand is used as backfill around the drain.
  • 250 microns: in the case of soil rich in fine and medium sand.
  • 450 microns: in the case of a soil containing coarse sand to gravel.

Advantages and benefits of a nonwoven fabric

  • Because of their three-dimensional construction and filtration openings, nonwoven geotextiles are versatile and allow for the filtration of several types of soil, unlike a woven geotextile
which is limited to one only.
  • The primary functions of nonwoven geotextiles in an agricultural drainage application are filtration and drainage.
  • Their composition prevents the infiltration of fine particles, thanks to its smaller openings.
