Unstable storage space in a sawmill.
Located in La Baie, Saguenay, Groupe Lignarex is a family-owned company specializing in wood transformation for five generations. To meet increasing demand, the company needed to expand and optimize its storage and loading area. However, the site presented significant challenges due to unstable soil composed of wood chips, bark, and other organic residues accumulated over time. This instability hindered accessibility for transportation and wood storage operations.
Optimizing limited storage space
Prior to Soleno’s intervention, the Lignarex yard suffered from subsidence problems, limiting storage space, which was already limited in the sawmill yard. The soil, enriched with non-structural organic matter, made it difficult to circulate heavy machinery and store lumber. The yard’s limited space, combined with the impossibility of effectively using its entire surface area, represented a major impediment tot hte development of operations.
A combination of geosynthetics to the rescue
Soleno proposed a combination of separation geotextile and BX-2000 reinforcement geogrid, providing effective soil stabilization with low backfill. This solution was deployed over 2 phases, providing Lignarex with a solid yard.
The results were impressive:
In addition to the products’ performance, Lignarex praised the quality of the advice and follow-up provided by the Soleno team throughout the project.
