A farm expansion guided by animal welfare
Ferme Pétri, a third-generation family farm located in Saint-André-de-Kamouraska, needed to expand its agricultural building to meet new animal welfare standards. The project included the creation of a dedicated space for young calves, with a ventilation system adapted to their needs.
This expansion required a solution that could support a more stable indoor environment while integrating efficiently into the overall building design.
Tempering incoming air to create a more stable environment
For young calves, air quality and ambient temperature are important factors. Outdoor air can be too cold in winter or too warm in summer, creating challenges for ventilation and indoor comfort.
The objective was to implement a system capable of naturally tempering incoming air before it entered the building, while respecting the installation constraints and schedule of the agricultural project.
An HDPE earth tube system designed for fast, durable installation
The selected solution used Solflo Max pipes with an integrated gasketed bell connection, installed underground to create an earth tube system, also known as a Canadian well. This principle allows outdoor air to circulate through buried pipes, where it is naturally tempered by the surrounding soil before being directed into the agricultural building.
Made of HDPE, Solflo Max pipes offer the durability, watertightness and ease of handling required for this type of installation. The integrated gasketed bell connection helps simplify assembly on site while contributing to system performance and reliability.
Lightweight, durable and quick to install, Solflo Max is well suited to agricultural projects where ventilation performance, installation timelines and long-term reliability are essential.
